Learning & sharing

Our three country based programmes in Southern Africa are complemented by a regional component which consists of joint workshops and sharing within the subregion but also beyond. Issues dealt with correspond to important questions in programme strategies and implementation.

Activities conducted since 2014 are as follows:

Social service delivery system – workshop in Uganda.

The purpose of the activity was to look at youth & adult education as a service that has to be delivered to a specific target group in a country and to explore ways of how that service can be optimised/improved with the application of a systems approach amongst different role-players / stakeholders.

Study visit on functional system of nonformal skills development for youth in Namibia.

In spite of very different challenges and opportunities of the countries in Southern Africa the exchange and study visit to Namibia allowed widening the understanding of the participants to conceptualise skills development in a systematic approach.

Towards applicable concepts of gender mainstreaming in the country programmes in Zimbabwe, Mozambique and South Africa

The workshop elaborated a deeper understanding of gender mainstreaming and inclusive education in our programmes; identified successful approaches to integrate gender in the process of planning, implementing and monitoring; elaborated country specific essentials for gender mainstreaming on micro-, meso- and macro-Levels linked to action plans.

Study tour to Morocco to meet ‘Folk High Schools’ and Community Learning Centres

The study tour to Morocco aimed to learn about the concepts of urban based ‘Universites Pour Tous’ (related to the concept of German Volkshochschulen – Folk High Schools), and of the more rural based ‘Centres d'Apprentissage Communautaire’ (related to the concept of Community Learning Centres). The findings on the visits indicate that partnerships of the centres with key stakeholders that include administration, agencies, international organisations, local people, experts, media, and business are key to the successful kick-starting and running of those centres.

REFLECT & YALE policy issues

In the years up to 2013 a series of training of trainers was organised by DVV International for participants from almost all countries in Southern Africa. The reports of the trainings can be found under publications.

Similarly, studies and workshops on policy issues of Youth & Adult Education and Learning (YALE) were conducted by DVV International. You find the relevant documents under publications.
