It is with deep sorrow and a heavy heart that we learned of the passing of Mrs. Joyness Dziwani Maele, the esteemed Programme Manager for CHREAA (Center for Human Rights Education, Advice, and Assistance). Mrs. Dziwani Maele played a pivotal role in establishing and implementing the Prison Education Project, a collaborative initiative between DVV International, CHREAA, and the Malawi Prison Service at Zomba Central Prison in Malawi’s eastern region district.
Mrs. Dziwani Maele’s dedication, passion, and unwavering commitment to advancing education within the prison community made her an invaluable member of the team. Her leadership and vision were instrumental in shaping the Prison Education Project, which seeks to empower inmates through vocational education opportunities and rehabilitation programmes.
It is with a profound sense of loss that we bid farewell to Mrs. Joyness Dziwani Maele, who not only demonstrated professional excellence but also embodied compassion and empathy in her interactions with colleagues, project partners, and the incarcerated individuals she sought to uplift. She died on 6th January 2024 and was laid to rest on Sunday 7th January 2024 in Blantyre, Malawi.
As we mourn the passing of a remarkable individual, our thoughts and prayers are with the Dziwani and Maele families, friends, and all those whose lives she touched. The legacy of her contributions to the Prison Education Project will continue to inspire us to strive for positive change in the lives of those who face the challenges of incarceration
