Minister of Gender, Community Development, and Social Welfare, Honourable Jean Muonaouza Sendeza, MP, has hailed DVV International, an organisation that works to improve adult education and development cooperation for the support it renders to adult literacy and education in the country.
The Honourable Minister was speaking on 3rd February 2025, when she welcomed Dr Johann Heilmann, Senior Desk Officer for DVV International Southern and Western Africa who will be replacing Gerhard Quincke, the current Regional Director Southern Africa, during a courtesy visit aimed at strengthening collaboration on adult education initiatives.
She thanked DVV International for the crucial role it plays in supporting adult literacy and education since 2017, citing key achievements which include the development of the Adult Literacy and Education Policy and Strategy, the rollout of the Adult Literacy and Education Management Information System (ALEMIS), and the establishment of Community Based Skill Development Centres in the districts of Dowa, Ntchisi, Mchinji and Ntcheu.
“These milestones have empowered learners with practical skills, improving their livelihoods and contributing to national development goals,” said the Minister.
DVV International Board Chairperson, Dr Ruth Mwandira thanked the Ministry for its commitment towards adult education despite resource constraints.
She commended Government through the Ministry for increasing honoraria for Adult Literacy instructors with effect from April 1, this year.
DVV International works with partners in over 30 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America.
