On 30 September, 2023, Adult Learning Forum (ALF) partnered with Epilepsy South Africa as one way of bringing disability sector partners on board into the Adult Learning and Education (ALE) networks.
Several organisations which included The Women’s Circle (TWC), DVV International, and several Community Learning Centre Representatives, rural NGO participants, Community Learning Centres (CLC) youth and local eentrepreneurs witnessed the event.
The organisations’ representatives shared various knowledge regarding their wok in ALE sector.
Vanessa Reynolds, from The Women’s Circle spoke about her experience in working to integrate non-formal education into CLCs and how CLCs could become more relevant to communities and that in turn, community organisations should link with CLCs.
The DVV International country director for South Africa, Farrell Hunter, who was the guest speaker to the event talked about the issue of the shifts in Community Colleges and their CLCs and the relevance to the challenges that communities face.
Several youth spoke of the important role that community education at CLCs played in their personal journeys and gave recognition to the committed educators care provided to them under challenging circumstances. Many felt motivated and some spoke about the personal efforts where they raised funds or contributed their own resources when they noticed fellow students struggling
